Lord Chadlington

Dr Balakrishnan has been a Member of Parliament since 2001. He is currently the Minister for the Environment and Water Resources. He previously held appointments as the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Second Minister for Trade and Industry, Minister responsible for Entrepreneurship, Second Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts and Minister of State for National Development.

During the early years of his political career, he served as Chairman of the “Remaking Singapore” committee and Chairman of the National Youth Council. He also served two terms as Chairman of the Young PAP.

Lord Chadlington

Lord Chadlington is Chief Executive of Huntsworth plc, the listed international public relations group. He invested in this company in the summer of 2000 and over the last eleven years has built it into an international consultancy group focused on public relations and integrated healthcare communications, with over 1700 people, operating from 70 principal offices in 31 countries around the world. He has spent his entire working life in communications, as a journalist after graduating from Cambridge University and later in Public Relations both in-house and consultancy. He founded Shandwick in 1974 and the company was publicly listed in 1984. He established Shandwick as the largest PR consultancy in the UK, holding that position for the next 17 years. He built the firm overseas and it was sold to The Interpublic Group of Companies in 1998, forming the group that became the largest PR consultancy in the world.

Lord Chadlington has served as a non-executive director on a number of Boards including HBOS, Britax and Tempus and has written and lectured extensively on communications, politics and Public Relations. He has also been active in the arts as member of the Arts Council, Chairman of the Royal Opera House and was the first Chairman of the Lottery Distribution arm of the Arts Council of England. He was created a life peer in 1996.
